Sleep deprivation DAY 4

well that was a restless night. Went to bed at 1, was still clock watching at 5. Keith was getting a bit narky at my 'jumps' and 'jitters' I did a little research yesterday and I found a couple of answers:
Basically, the nicotine in cigarettes acts as a bowel stimulant, so one of the symptoms of withdrawal can be constipation. However it's really important to not give up on giving up. You may be pleased to know that constipation after quitting is usually very temporary. Once your body adjusts to being nicotine free, bowel habits usually become regular again within a few weeks.
Mouth ulcers were also significantly more likely among the quitters for up to two weeks after giving up. After six weeks all the symptoms subsided. An increase in mouth ulcers could be related to the loss of the antibacterial effect of smoking, and the cold symptoms might be due to a transient depression in immune function after kicking the habit..“Smokers need to be informed that they have an increased chance of experiencing an elevation in cold symptoms and mouth ulcers on stopping smoking. Being psychologically prepared for these effects is likely to mitigate their impact on the cessation attempt”
And the only thing I could find on the 'possible reasons for my night time jumpiness is a caffiene reaction. Apparently when you smoke the nicotine 'numbs' the effect of caffeine so the effects of it are not noticed. Of course, take away the nicotine and after a cup of tea / coffee you're climbing the walls.
Sooo it's another thing I've gotta quit, this is all such fun. I'll reduce my intake today, especially this evening and see if it makes a difference.
I resisted deep fried chicken balls, special rice and sweet n sour last night, Keith's chinese mate came round last night with a bag of chinese delights and I had to brainwash myself that I wasn't hungry. (did nibble very slowly on one chicken ball)
The cravings for nicotine really aren't that bad at all, i fancy one but not craving. I'd say I'm having a small need for a smoke about once every two hours, but as soon as I've thought, I could do with a smoke, the thought's gone and I'm busy doing something.
For anyone considering the quit, it really isn't as bad as you are brainwashed to think it will be. Mind over matter, when it pops in to your mind just think of something else and it's soon gone, but from expereince the first couple of weeks were fairly easy for me before, it's a month or two down the line when the novelty wears off .... but third time lucky eh!
I weighed in at 10st this morning, today I will eat cabbage leaves, drink boiled water and spend half the day on my running machine.
gorgeous sunny day, a day to reflect on the good things in life
