Dear Diary

Well I've had a great start to the New year, and it hasn't even officially started yet. I had a phone call at 4am this morning, Martin, at the hospital. He went to a club last night for a Boxing Day drink, and apprently this bloke went beserk, he punched Martin's mate first, who is about twice the size of Martin, and then decided he was too big and came at Martin. Martin was beaten unconscious and next thing he knew he was in an ambulance on his way to hospital. The casualty department assumed he was just 'some drunk' and told him he would not be seen til at least 8am, and put him at the bottom of the list, so I have just paid £30 for a taxi to get him home so I can clean him up. It looks to me like he has a broken nose, he may have a broken rib and the inside of his lip is split all the way. Keith has just taken him over to our local walk in centre to see if they can confirm whether his nose is broken. It will be too late to stitch his lip up now, it's probably started to heal, I just hope to God it's not going to leave scarring. Words are beyond me that they assumed he was just a drunken trouble maker and were willing to leave him sat in the waiting room like this for 6 or more hours. I really am speechless. He sobbed his heart out when he got home, he was terrified and none of the medical staff, including the ambulance men, gave him the time of day.
The police knew the bloke who did it, he has a criminal record and this is a habit of his, they are out looking for him, supposedly.
I am just, I don't know. It's come to something when all I can think of is thank God he has only had his nose broken, his lip split and just about every part of him kicked in, at least he wasn't stabbed or bottled, the way things are going in this town, country, I am sure that my entry one day will be that the worst has happened.
